Each of the works is painted across six rolls of canvas. Chagall painted the works in Paris, subsequently installing and touching up the works at the Met Opera. The paintings are classic Chagall, embracing a dream-like folkloric language and referencing his Russian Jewish heritage and his passion for music, particularly Mozart.
